Pacman

In the game known as pacman, the ghost character moves around a maze eating everything in its path. The game itself is named after this character as it was created by Japanese game designer, Toru Iwatani, while he was suffering from the effects of acute stomach pains. Furthermore, he had a fever and a sore stomach. Iwatani adapted the idea of eating away a characters life from Frankenstein's monster and called it pacman. The original game only allowed the player to move left or right, but later versions allowed diagonal movement.

Pacman was born on March 22, 1934 in Arusha, Tanzania. His name is derived from the English word 'pacify,' which means to make calm or quiet. He has also been dubbed the ' PAC man' because his whole body is in the form of an arrow. His first name is derived from the Edward, whereas his middle name is derived from James. His nickname is 'pac man' and his nickname colors are green and red.

His father, Charles, worked as a bank teller and his mother, Anna, was a housewife. They lived in Mwanza Region where they owned a lot of land. Anna had several siblings- older sisters named Edna and Margaret and younger sister named Jane. Anna herself had several siblings- two older brothers named Thomas and Gerald and two younger brothers named Leonard and Arthur. Anna's father was English and her mother was Swiss German; they met while both were working in Switzerland for the Red Cross during World War I.

In 1941, after being shot down in his plane, Pacman was a castaway for 37 days until he was rescued by Dutch sailors. For three months he lived on the fictional Ghost Island with other castaways before being rescued by Sully's Fishing Crew off Ghost Island's coast. By this time he had become hungry enough that he ate around 90 bugs and 4 spiders during his ordeal on Ghost Island alone. Although he missed home, he managed to overcome his fear of being stranded on an island and became one of the most famous heroes of all time.

In 1986 Toru Iwatani published Iwatani's book about pacman where he revealed that he created him to conquer his fears of going hungry after being shipwrecked for 37 days. He also stated that the original idea for pacman came to him after he suffered from acute stomach pains and had a fever for three weeks. It is apparent that Mr Iwatania was inspired to create one of the most popular games ever!
