Tekken

Tekken 1 is Namco's first ever video game to feature martial arts action. It has a unique backstory that helped define one of the most iconic franchises in gaming history. The first game was released in Japan on June 11th, 1992 for the PlayStation, Saturn and PC. It was later ported to the Gameboy Advance and the Sony PlayStation 2 as a spin-off series called 'Tekken 2.' It has been translated and released in numerous countries around the world. Despite being over twenty years old, Tekken 1 still receives regular updates with new characters and gameplay modes.

Each character in the first game has their own unique background. For example, Master Lee taught his son Paul how to fight using Chinese martial arts. However, Paul believed there were better Chinese styles so he trained himself in kung fu. Eventually, he became a member of the International Police Drug Enforcement Unit. After defeating a highway kingpin, he decided to give up his career to become a Chinese monk. He now calls himself Shaolin Master 'Tung Fu Cheng." Other characters include: Nina (a Soviet special forces operator), Kazuya (the second heir to The Mishima Corporation), Lucky Chloe (the daughter of a wealthy family), Ling Xiaoyu (the young sister of Lin Wei's deceased wife), and Steve Fox (a celebrity bodybuilder).

A lot of thought went into marketing the first game when Namco changed the name from 'Fatal Fighter' to 'Tekken.' They wanted to appeal to a wider audience by targeting gamers who were familiar with martial arts films such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Enter The Dragon. Unfortunately, many gamers were unfamiliar with martial arts so they refused to buy it. This caused Namco to lose interest in producing games based on martial arts genres. Thankfully, they learned from their mistakes and launched a successful series based on MMA fighting action.

While many have heard of Street Fighter's creator, Akira Y Snake Hoshino, few are familiar with his son Masa Jack aka Masaaki Hoshino. Masaaki lived under constant threat from his father for most of his life. He finally gained international recognition when he created iconic characters such as King Hippo, Pauline Mango & Anna Panna that continue to be popular today. Each new release of Tekken showcases Masaaki's brilliant mind and unique creativity. He has shaped the gaming industry's imagination by creating memorable characters that have become icons in pop culture.

While other games have come and gone, Tekken 1 is still enjoyed by fans around the world. Its unique backstory helped establish each character's personality while setting up future games in the series.
